Today, gathering in-flight data is a nightmare mostly because the tests are run outdoor, in an environment that cannot be controlled. It means tests are not reproducible and data are hard or even impossible to collect.

Modular and scalable
Because the needs of every drone developers are different, we came up with a solution that is highly modular and scalable to infinity.
The base of our product is what we call a wind brick – a wind generation unit composed of nine wind pixels. By stacking these bricks, it is then possible to assemble the wall that will best suit your application.
For instance, you can recreate the descent (landing) phase of a multirotor by choosing to place the wind bricks in a horizontal plane. Or, you can simulate the trajectories of your flying machine by composing a curved wall with your bricks.
Drones are highly dynamic. They are able to change trajectory easily thanks to their low inertia. It is therefore really important to be able to test their dynamic abilities.
By choosing to compose curved wall out of our wind bricks, you enable the curved path test. It means you can easily change the orientation of the relative wind. Changing the direction of the wind that is blown on a static drone is similar to changing the orientation of a drone in still air.
Controllable and accurate
WindShape wind walls are composed of a great number of wind pixels (12.5 wpx/m). It allows an amazing control on the generated wind. Also, the low inertia of the moving parts in our system enable fast changes in wind speed. Gusts of wind, shear flows, urban canyon flows can be reproduced to test every possible situation.
Finally, laminar wind conditions - with a turbulence intensity bellow 1% - can be achieved by adding filters and honeycomb in front of the fans. Even with these flow manipulators, the independant character of every single wind pixel is preserved.
Generating the wind is an important aspect of the test. It enables a particular flight situation that the drone can meet during its life. But it’s not enough.
Being able to make the test is one thing, being able to gather data of interest is another thing. Coupling WindShape wind wall with motion capture cameras will allow you to precisely monitor the behavior of your drone while in flight.
Also, thanks to the proximity between the test operator and the test subject, it 's possible to keep a close eye on the drone. Using a high-speed camera, for instance, allows the capture of critical information that was not accessible before.
